Thought so. That might be driving some of the other dislikes, which don't seem as grounded. I know that if there is something that frustrates me and I can't change I can channel that negative energy elsewhere.

Really I think 4E took a huge step away from those types of DMs and players. I think they made up for it in WoW players, but it is always hard to have your main hobby walk away from you.

He HATES it! and to be honest, I understand that - it's so non-physical - that's the sort of thing that really gets to him. But after some grousing, he gave in and let it stand as is. Too many changes to too many powers otherwise.

I have a question for you. What does your DM think about the space issues in 4E? I mean the fact that c^2 = the larger of a^2 or b^2, ya know that a diagonal distance being the same as an orthogonal distance.

That was always the first and best example of how 4E has ceased to be simulationist. Man we have fun with that one...

My favorite aspect of the cards is the whole save ends/not save ends thing. I always forget, and I hate asking three times.

That’s a good one!

I think we already new about that, though, from the start (re: his mindset). It shocked us when he volunteered to run the game in the first place. We were having too much fun and leaving him out, since he had no desire to actually play 4E. We just have to try and keep him from sucking the fun out of it with too much over-thinking.

Oh, I know this one.

First: ask him how many creatures there are, approximately, in each swarm.

Second: reiterate the ruling on marking, cursing, quarrying, and so forth.

Third: demand that your aoe powers damage each creature in the swarm individually. You can figure the hit points per creature by dividing the swarm's total hit points by the number of creatures in the swarm.

In all seriousness: 4e is the wrong game for your GM's current mindset. It does not lend itself to simulating a world via intense examination of the rules; you've got to be willing to abstract.

May have been errata'd:
"Quick Draw
Prerequisite: Dex 13
Benefit: You can draw a weapon (or an object
stored in a belt pouch, bandolier, or similar container,
such as a potion) as part of the same action used to
attack with the weapon or use the object.
You also gain a +2 feat bonus to initiative checks."

Not a bad idea - Quick Draw is awesome if you qualify. Item grab as a Free Action PLUS +2 to Initiative? But only two of our players meet the Dex 13 prereq. My wizard will be able to take it in Paragon after the stat boost, but the others used Dex as a dump stat, so they are no where NEAR that requirement.

Potion quaffing is the single best reason to get the Quick Draw feat, whihc allows to draw an item as a free action in conjunction with using it.

That is always how I got around that problem and only close combat characters will use this with any regularity, so I don't think it is too steep to leave it as a feat...
